Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a new amazing treatment offered at Refresh Medical Spa.  Massage cupping therapy is a form of therapeutic bodywork that is used to facilitate deep tissue release and bring about numerous healthful benefits. A few of the main benefits of Cupping Therapy are Pain Relief, Enhanced flexibility, Lymphatic/blood circulation, and Body Detoxification.

Cupping therapy is ideal for those that are looking to improve their flow of energy, encourage detoxification of the body, relieve pain, ease tense muscles, or encourage relaxation.  The suction and negative pressure that occurs during a cupping therapy session encourage blood flow and help to sedate the nervous system.  Therapy can be geared more aggressively to the athlete, or subtler to the average spa goer looking for some pain relief along with relaxation.

What Is Cupping Therapy

To create suction on the body surface, the therapist utilizes glass, plastic or soft silicone cups. Kendra, our Cupping Therapy expert here at Refresh, uses plastic cups.

These cups are moved over the skin using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup, or may be parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. This suction reaches deep into the soft tissue, attachments and organs. Another benefit is to pull toxins and inflammation from the body to the surface of the skin where the lymphatic system can more readily eliminate them.
